Migrant labourers selling guns in state to boost income – Yahoo! India News
TO earn an extra income, migrant labourers are bringing readily available countrymade weapons from outside the state and selling these at a higher price here. This was revealed after the interrogation of the two accused, who were arrested by the Special Operations Groups (SOG) of Vadodara and Bharuch districts along with countrymade guns.
“Several delivery agents get weapons cheaply from Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and sell them here at higher prices,” said SOG Sub-Inspector M I Pathan.
During a patrol on Friday morning, the Vadodara SOG had found one person from Madhya Pradesh with a country-made revolver worth Rs 15,000 and a katta worth Rs 2,500. “The accused, Ganpat Chhagan Chauhan, was handed over to the police for questioning,” he added.
Dabhoi police officials, however, said Chauhan was a sarpanch from Valiapura village in Madhya Pradesh. “When we interrogated him, it turned out that he was a sarpanch of a Madhya Pradesh village and was contesting state panchayat elections on January 17. He told us that he procured weapons as he was threatened by an opposition party candidate,” said Circle Police Inspector P M Damor.
The police officer added that the state highway connecting Alirajpur with Vadodara district is being increasingly used for sale of weapons. Bharuch SOG, meanwhile, arrested a factory contractor, Ramji Suryabali Yadav, originally from Uttar Pradesh, along with a country-made weapon. “The accused has been sent to a two-day remand,” Sub-Inspector N U Jhala said, adding that he was arrested from a rented house in Gadkhol Faliya in Ankleshwar.
Earlier this month, the Bharuch SOG had arrested one person with a countrymade revolver. “When we interrogated the accused, Shailendra Rajput, he told us that he had purchased the weapon from a migrant labourer from Bihar,” Jhala said.
